The Voice of Merit Shop

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national trade association representing 22,000 members from more than 19,000 construction and industry-related firms. Founded on the merit shop philosophy, ABC and its 70 chapters help members develop people, win work and deliver that work safely, ethically and profitably for the betterment of the communities in which ABC and its members work.

ABC is a committed group of construction professionals supporting our country, our community and our industry. We believe the Merit Shop Philosophy and the free enterprise system go hand in hand and that construction contracts should be awarded to the lowest responsible bidder. We are committed to quality construction - completed on time and within budget.

ABC Celebrates Apprenticeship Tax Credit Act Passage

ABC North Alabama recently celebrated the passage of the Apprenticeship Tax Credit Act, which will make contractors training their employees through a Department of Labor Registered Apprentice program eligible for tax credits to help offset the cost of training. Alabama Governor Robert Bentley signed the bill into law following the 2016 Legislative Session, and we thank Sen. Arthur Orr for leading the way on this important piece of legislation. Arthur Orr, Brent Collins (ABCNA Legislative Committee Chair), and Jay Stutts (North Alabama Craft Training Foundation Board Member).
